Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a horrible event to get people really thinking about car safety. In our busy lives we can sometimes forget about the simplest things, but even a simple mistake can lead to tragedy when it comes to an accident. This is especially true when it comes to traveling with young children. A recent fatal accident has spurred the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) to put together a class to show parents the importance of car seat safety.
The course is being organized in the wake of a recent accident that saw a baby losing his life. The child was not properly restrained, and when the car he was riding in was rear-ended, he was killed. It’s a horrible, horrible tragedy and one that organizers with the Indy Fire Department believe could have been avoided.
In response, the IFD will be putting together a class that can be attended by anyone and will give parents personal lessons on how to properly restrain their child. There are so many different kinds of car seats that it can be a bit challenging for young parents. It’s not uncommon for them to not pull the strap tight enough and a number of other small mistakes that could end up being deadly.
These classes will be a safe place where parents can ask all the questions they need and can see live demonstrations of the proper car seat techniques. It’s all in an attempt to avoid future accidents like the terrible tragedy that occurred on our streets last week. We have to do everything we can to protect our children.
