We were reminded of the unfortunate consequences that come from big truck accidents earlier in the week. A woman lost control of her minivan and crossed the center line along S.R. 1in Dearborn County. To make matters worse, she ended up directly in the path of an approaching semi-truck.
The two vehicles collided head-on and forced both off the road. We’ve previously discussed the destructive power of large commercial trucks, but it’s something that can’t be overstated. When they are involved in an accident with passenger cars the outcome for those in the smaller vehicles is often grim. Sadly, this wreck was no exception and the driver of the minivan lost her life in the accident.
The woman had a passenger in her van as well – a 5-year-old boy. Miraculously, the young boy survived the devastating accident, but he did suffer serious injuries and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital where we hope he has a full and quick recovery.
Sometimes the events surrounding an accident are unknown. We don’t know what caused the minivan to cross the center line. We don’t know the reason; we only know the result, and it’s a result that happens far too often after big truck accidents in Indiana.
