Do you know the true dangers of texting while driving? Any motorist that has been in an accident caused by a distracted driver does. As auto accident lawyers in Indianapolis, we know that sometimes you have to experience it for yourself to truly understand. Fortunately there are ways to understand the dangers of texting and driving without actually engaging in the reckless act.
Large mobile companies like AT&T are trying to do something about it by offering innovative texting simulators to students across the country including right here in Indiana. Recently AT&T set their simulator up at an Indianapolis bowling alley. According to a spokesperson, “If you’re texting, sending a text, reading a text, you’re putting yourself and all those around you at risk. This simulator is a great example of what happens if you are irresponsible on the road.”
Users are required to stay in their lane and avoid getting into a collision all while receiving and answering texts. It’s no easy task as many who tried the simulator learned. According to one, “There’s just too much going on. It was really hard, I couldn’t look at my phone and drive at the same time. I was swerving through the lanes.”
Texting while driving has been banned in Indiana since 2011 but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t happen. Legislators want to continue to tighten up these laws by imposing a ban on all hand-held devices. Anything that can decrease fatalities on our roads is great as nearly 3,400 people were killed on US highways directly related to distracted driving.
