Hurt In Any Accident?

A recent bus crash in suburban Greenwood underscores how much is potentially at stake when a large commercial vehicle is in an accident. On Tuesday October 14, the Indiana State Police reported that a double-decker bus on an Atlanta-to-Chicago run flipped on its side along Interstate 65 at about 4:30 a.m. The bus was operated by Megabus, an interstate carrier operated by Coach USA North America.

Avoiding a Previous Wreck

The authorities report that the bus driver stated that he attempted to avoid a vehicle which had previously been in an accident. Another vehicle then hit the bus, and this allegedly caused the driver to lose control. The double-decker bus then swerved off the roadway, and it flipped onto its side.

Numerous Injuries

Over 50 people were reportedly on the bus at the time of the rollover, and initial reports indicate that 26 passengers were injured, six of them seriously. The injured were transported to area hospitals for diagnosis and treatment. Following the accident, the northbound lanes of I-65 were closed for a period of time.

Potentially Complex Cases

Commercial vehicle accidents can present complex questions of liability. A  bus operator and its insurer may face claims when negligence can be reasonably asserted. Drivers can be held accountable for distracted, fatigued or inattentive driving. A decision to hire a given driver may be scrutinized. At the same time, the actions of all drivers involved in multi-vehicle accidents will typically be investigated.

Indianapolis personal injury lawyers can help to sort through the complex legal issues that can arise when a client is injured in a commercial vehicle wreck. When appropriate, litigation can be brought that seeks compensation on behalf of a client for unpaid medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other losses.
