Hurt In Any Accident?

Danny Lyons, 58, was crossing 21st Avenue on the east side of Indianapolis around 6:15 p.m. when he was struck by what police describe as a white decommissioned ambulance traveling west on that road.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the accident. According to a press release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the vehicle should have front-end damage.

Police told the Indianapolis Star that finding the vehicle should point them in the right direction as they search for the driver. If you have any information about this accident, call the IMPD Traffic Investigations Unit at (317) 327-6549 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-8477.

And Lyons isn’t the only victim of a hit-and-run around Indianapolis recently.

A middle school student in Lafayette, Ebony Knight, was also killed in a hit-and-run incident in February. The man responsible for her death was convicted on Nov. 17.

Knight was walking home from buying school supplies at Walgreens with her cousin when she was hit by a Jeep Liberty from behind.  The driver, a 43-year-old Lafayette man, fled the scene but was arrested the following day. Police suspected he had been intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Local bar employees testified that he had been drinking before the crash, and his wife testified that she suspected he had been drinking when he returned home that evening.  He also told his wife he had been involved in a crash.

Though the defense argued it was impossible to prove the man was drunk at the time of the fatal accident, the jury disagreed.  He was found guilty of operating while intoxicated causing death, failure to stop after an accident causing death and failure to give notice of an accident.  He now faces up to 28 years in prison and will be sentenced at a later date.

While one hit-and-run driver was caught, arrested and tried for the death he caused, the driver who killed Danny Lyons has yet to be found.  In cases like this, talking to an accident lawyer may help.
