Many of us in Indiana have grown accustomed to seeing farming equipment on our roads. All one needs to do is leave one of our many urban areas and you are soon surrounded by farmland and farm equipment of all sorts. It is a peaceful scene and most of us enjoy living surrounded by nature and agriculture.
Unfortunately, this past week we heard of a terrible tractor accident in Tippecanoe County. It appears that a combine approached an intersection, failed to stop at the marked stop sign, and collided with a mini-van carrying 6 passengers. As we know, the more rural the area, the more likely it is that we will see farming equipment on the roadways.
The result of this Indiana tractor accident was that 3 of the 6 passengers were killed and the other 3 were seriously injured. Due to the severity of the tractor accident, we know that those injured and the families of those killed will suffer life-long consequences and there will be no way to repair the damage and fully recover from the losses incurred that day.
Because the tractor accident resulted in fatalities the driver of the tractor was screened for chemical impairment and he was scheduled for a hospital blood test to check for alcohol and drug presence in his system. This is probably just the beginning of what is sure to be a lengthy investigation.
The victims of similar wrecks don’t have the luxury of time to begin picking up the pieces of their lives. The rent still needs to be paid, the medical bills will begin to arrive in the mail, and work will go on with or without them.
