Hurt In Any Accident?

Obscured Views Can Lead to Life-Threatening Accidents

Large trucks obscure driver’s views

If you’ve ever been driving down the highway behind a big truck, you know that it can sometimes be frustrating.  If they’re driving too slowly, of course, you’re going to want to get around them, but that can be more dangerous than you think.  Large tractor trailers obscure the view of other vehicles around you, especially vehicles that are approaching from the opposite direction on a two-lane road.

Not being able to see around a semi-truck seems to be what caused a serious accident Wednesday morning in the 3200 block of West U.S. 52.  A former Indiana State Police trooper was riding his three-wheeled motorcycle westbound along the highway while another vehicle was approaching from the east, traveling behind a tractor trailer.

With the semi’s trailer obstructing his view, the vehicle attempted to turn onto another road, but ended up turning directly into the path of the approaching motorcycle.  According to the Rush County deputy sheriff, “There was no chance at that point for either driver to avoid what was essentially a head-on collision.”  The former trooper was thrown nearly 25 yards in the collision.   He was rushed to a local hospital before being transported by air to an Indianapolis trauma center.

The incident was an unfortunate reminder of how quickly an accident can happen.  When your view is obscured it’s vitally important to take extra care to be sure that you’re aware of other vehicles around you.

The former trooper was the unfortunate victim of carelessness.  What can you do if you find yourself in a similar situation?  The medical bills that follow an injury accident can quickly become overwhelming, but if the accident wasn’t your fault, you shouldn’t have to pay.

The accident attorneys at the Ken Nunn Law Office fight to get accident victims the maximum settlements and they’ve been doing it for more than 45 years.  When you’re hurt in an accident, contact us.  We’ll hold the people that hurt you and your family responsible and work hard to get you the compensation you deserve.
