While accidents continue to occur on a frequent basis in and around Indianapolis, there are people out there who will continue to come to the aid of those who are injured. An Indianapolis mother still has her son in her life, and she believes she has an Indiana State Patrol officer to thank. While he says, “I just showed up at the right place with the right equipment,” his humble nature doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s a hero.
A twenty-six year old man had arrived to help his sister after her car got stranded on I-465. He was attempting to push his sister’s car out of a rut when he was struck by a drunk driver. The impact knocked the young man over a guardrail. He suffered a serious leg injury and was losing enough blood that he could have easily lost his life at the scene.
Fortunately, the state trooper arrived on the scene and applied a life-saving tourniquet. The trooper had medical-cross training so he was prepared for just such an incident. According to the trooper, “Through the Indiana National Guard Combat Life Saver course. Since I’ve been in the Indiana guard for approximately 14 years, it proved to work last night for the situation.”
The injury was severe and the recovery will be long, but thanks to the quick response by the officer, the man will survive. As personal injury lawyers in Indianapolis who have seen the harmful effects of accidents, we applaud the officer and hope the young man has a quick recovery.
