Early last month, two 9-year-old cousins were sleeping in the front room of a West Indianapolis home when a drunk driver lost control of his truck on Beasley Drive. Just after 3:00 a.m., the truck crashed through the front of the house and into the room in which the girls slept.
The couch one of the girls was sleeping on was pushed through a bedroom wall but she was not injured.
The other girl, however, was found buried beneath a pile of rubble. She suffered a fractured pelvis and lacerations to her bladder and eyelids.
Indianapolis police investigators said that the suspect ran from the scene after crashing his truck, but was arrested a short time later.
He had a blood-alcohol content (BAC) of 0.12, a police spokesperson stated.
The suspect claims he was not driving the vehicle that night and that he had loaned his truck to someone else.
He is being held at the Marion County Jail as the investigation of the horrible accident continues.
Indiana ranks #19 in the nation for drunk driving. Though alcohol-related auto accident fatalities have decreased over the past two years, DUI crashes are still a major problem throughout the state.
Accidents caused by a drunk driver are often more serious than those caused by typical traffic errors. Driving under the influence can cause a driver to operate their vehicle erratically, to maneuver aggressively, to speed excessively, and/or to simply lose control. As such, the damage a DUI accident in Indiana causes to both property and people involved can be much more extensive.
If you were injured by an Indiana drunk driver or your loved one was wrongfully killed in an alcohol-related auto accident, seek legal help. An Indiana DUI accident lawyer can help you sort out the details of a tragic crash and determine the best strategy to get you the maximum compensation for your injury or loss.
