A tragic bus accident over the weekend in Indianapolis is making headlines across the country. The devastating accident cost four people their lives and left dozens seriously injured. The tragedy raised many questions – What caused the wreck? Who is responsible?
The bus was carrying around 40 children and adults as they made their way back home after a week-long church event in Michigan. Sadly, the fun and inspirational trip turned disastrous, and what makes it even worse is they were less than two miles from home.
The bus was exiting off I-465 to turn onto Keystone Ave, but it never slowed down. It was barreling out-of-control and soon smashed into a median where it overturned. According to a shocked witness, “Just as I went through [the intersection], I heard a skid. I looked back. I see this in the air and people falling out of the bus. I could have gone my whole life without seeing that.”
Many bystanders rushed to the site of the accident; a scene that was described as “mass chaos.” Many of those that arrived first even attempted to lift the bus up to help those trapped underneath.
Those involved in the crash were rushed to local hospitals suffering from a variety of head, arm, and leg injuries. As of Sunday, eight youths were still hospitalized, some in critical condition. A memorial service was held at the church to honor their four members that had passed away and to pray for the recovery of all those involved.
But what caused such a devastating accident? It’s speculated that mechanical issues within the bus may have caused the brakes to fail.
