INDOT Apologizes For Massive Morning Indianapolis Traffic Jam

Traffic-on-Interstate-1024×819

In a big city like Indianapolis, you know there are going to be a lot of times where you are stuck in traffic.  It can be the most frustrating part of your day.  As accident lawyers in Indianapolis, we know that one of the most common causes of traffic jams is a car wreck.  Often times you might not even know what’s holding up traffic, and rarely is someone willing to step up and admit your nightmarish commute was their fault.  But that’s what happened last week.

Last Thursday, traffic was backed up for almost seven miles on Interstate 65 – a standstill that stretched from I-465 to County Line Road.  So what was the cause of this massive jam?  Well, the Indiana Department of Transportation stepped forward on Twitter to apologize for the mess.

The highway had been under repair, but the simple answer is that painted lines were taking longer than expected to dry.  A spokesperson for INDOT has gone on to further clarify exactly where they went wrong that morning.  “In hindsight, the contractors should have stopped painting sooner in order to allow more time for epoxy to dry in enough time to open traffic lanes before the morning commute hours.”

Apparently the construction schedule had been extended into the morning commute hours, which is the reason for the overlap.  Obviously, we’ll take a bit of wet paint as a reason for slow traffic over a serious injury accident any day of the week.
