Hurt In Any Accident?

Indianapolis Injury Lawyers Note OWI Charge Following Collision With Ambulance

Ambulance in Indianapolis

An alleged drunk driver crashed a commercial van into an ambulance in Carmel on Friday, November 14. The incident subsequently led to an arrest.

Accident Details

According to a report released by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, a 37-year-old male motorist from Sheridan was southbound in the van on Hazel Dell Parkway at approximately 8:15 a.m. when he attempted a left turn. His van then crashed into an ambulance attempting to cross 146th Street.

No Serious Injuries Reported

The ambulance came to a stop on the median. Fortunately, no patient was being transported at the time of the collision. According to authorities, none of the three people in the ambulance was injured seriously. There was no immediate report regarding the nature of any injuries.

Multiple Charges, Including OWI

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the van was subsequently arrested on multiple charges, including operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. There was no immediate information available as to whether a breath/alcohol test was administered.

Drunk Driving and Alleged Negligence

Although the investigation into this accident is still ongoing, OWI will often constitute evidence of negligent conduct under state law. Under Indiana state statutes, an individual that can reasonably assert that negligence led to injury may seek compensatory damages in a civil court with the appropriate jurisdiction. Compensation may be sought for unpaid medical expenses, pain and suffering, possible lost income from work and other potential costs and losses.
