There are undoubtedly numerous owners and lessees of Lexus RX350s, Toyota Rav4s and Toyota Tacomas across the state of Indiana. Now, many of those vehicles from model years 2012 and 2013 are being recalled. Toyota says that a total of approximately 295,000 vehicles are included in the recall, including 261,114 in the United States market.
A Problem Braking Component
Toyota Motor Corporation has filed documents with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration detailing a problem with an electronic component of the brake actuator. The largest of the Japanese automakers says that the defective component could cause certain brake-related safety systems to fail to operate correctly. Specifically, the malfunction could result in increased resistance in the brake cylinders, and braking could be impacted.
Potential Impact On Braking
Although no accidents or injuries have been reported thus far, Toyota indicates that potentially inoperative anti-lock brakes or stability control systems could increase the possibility of accident and/or injury. Any potential problem with stopping a vehicle or maintaining its stability on the road is of understandable concern to both those driving effected vehicles as well as those concerned over encountering these vehicles out on the road.
Toyota Announces A Fix
The Toyota documents filed with NHTSA indicate that the company will correct the problem with a software update pertaining to the skid control electronic unit. Owners and lessees of vehicles that are impacted by recalls are typically notified by letter. Toyota will perform the required fix via its network of dealerships.
