Indianapolis accident attorneys fight for injury victims’ long-term needs
When it comes to motor vehicle accidents involving bicyclists and pedestrians, the victims often suffer life-changing injuries. A victim of a recent Indianapolis accident involving a high-speed car chase describes her injuries in just that way. She says it changed her life forever.
According to a report from WTHR-TV (Channel 13), police were chasing a 23-year-old Indianapolis man in a stolen SUV who weaved in and out of traffic on Interstate 70 before exiting near downtown Indianapolis. As the out-of-control suspect neared the intersection of Maryland and Meridian streets, he rammed a Ford Taurus, which then struck a 26-year-old mother of two who was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk. The cyclist’s foot was pinned beneath the car, requiring stitches to close a gash, and she suffered lower back injuries from the collision. The woman said she’s been coping with migraine headaches following the accident, as well.
Remarkably, in spite of the pain and difficulties while she heals, the victim said she must have an angel watching over her. “She shouldn’t even be alive,” her mother-in-law told reporters, marveling at how easily the crash could have ended in death. “I thank God every day that she’s here.”
The women’s relief isn’t misplaced. Pedestrians and bicyclists can be killed easily when involved in an accident with a motor vehicle that weighs several thousand pounds. With little to no protection from an impact, the massively outsized victims who escape death can face catastrophic injury – such as spinal and head injuries, disfigurement, and permanent disability – that will drastically alter their lives.
Our Indianapolis Accident Attorneys fight to get the money needed for full recovery
While the driver of the stolen vehicle in this case was arrested and faces criminal charges, a criminal case covers punishment but not compensation for injuries. In many cases, the victim will incur huge medical bills and require ongoing treatment and care that’s also expensive. Victims and their families can be left wondering how they will pay for all of it.
