Last week, a tanker truck hauling 600 gallons of gasoline losing control of the vehicle and driving into a two-story house in Kokomo. The impact of the big truck caused the house to move off its foundation.
Two residents were in the home at the time of the incident but were not injured. They were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
It appears that a car drove through a stop sign, colliding with the tanker. The truck then left the road and slammed into the brick house.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances to determine whether other factors were involved in this unfortunate accident that has left its residents without a home for Christmas.
The family is living in a hotel until other arrangements are made.
When the Kokomo Fire Department crew arrived, it took several hours for them to stabilize the house to ensure that it didn’t collapse. Luckily, the gasoline tanker truck did not catch fire, which could have caused devastating destruction had there been an explosion.
Accidents like this happen so quickly, and liability is difficult to determine. When individuals fall victim to big trucks, it is important that they seek legal counsel from a reputable attorney in Indiana.
When 18-wheel trucks and tanker trucks leave the road due to negligence or an unskilled driver behind the wheel, serious injury can result.
Other circumstances that cause these accidents can include speeding, inadequate vehicle maintenance, as well as driver impairment due to lack of sleep and even cases of DUI if the truck driver is under the influence of alcohol.
