Hurt In Any Accident?

Distracted Drivers are an Even Greater Threat in Poor Weather

We all know that the weather in and around Indianapolis is bad.  All you have to do is look around and see the snow and ice to know that accidents are more likely to happen.  As injury attorneys in Indianapolis we know that this type of weather can play a major role in an accident, but there are still other factors involved as well.

Take a recent bus accident on Indy’s east side last week.  The ground was dusted with snow, many of the side streets were still icy, and a pickup truck smashed into the back of an IndyGo bus.  Now, a person’s first thought might be that wintery conditions were to blame for the accident.  They might certainly have played a role, but there seemed to more going on as well.  According to reports, the driver of the pickup worked late nights, and he may have in fact fallen asleep behind the wheel.

This is an accident that would have occurred whether there was snow on the ground or not.  The fact that he hit the bus without braking at all confirms that.  The bus was stopped to pick someone up and already had six passengers onboard.  The vehicle hit with enough force that three of those people had to be taken to a nearby hospital.  It goes to show that not every accident can be blamed on the weather, sometimes it’s a bit of negligence as well.
