Hurt In Any Accident?

Blue Lights Mean Slow Down to Protect Our Police

Blue Lights Mean Slow Down to Protect Our Police | Indianapolis Personal Injury Lawyers

Police officers do everything they can to be seen when making a traffic stop or responding to the scene of an accident. If you’re paying even the slightest amount of attention, you should be able to see the flashing blue lights from a distance and slow down appropriately. But when you’re impaired, when you’ve decided to drink and drive, bright blue lights might not even be enough to stop an accident.

Early Monday an Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) officer was responding to the scene of an accident. He turned on his flashing lights and blocked traffic while crews cleaned up the aftermath of the wreck. He didn’t know he was about to be involved in his own serious accident.

A police officer was injured when a drunk driver hit his patrol car.A drunk driver barreled into the back of his squad car. Drinking and driving was only his first poor decision that evening as the driver attempted to flee the scene. He pulled a U-turn and took off. Another officer at the scene started a pursuit, but it didn’t last long. The driver lost control of his car and smashed into the center median. He was quickly arrested, going from smashing into the back of a police car to riding in the back of one.

The man’s blood alcohol content was found to be .15%, nearly twice the legal limit. He’s facing charges of ‘driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on a suspended license and resisting law enforcement.’ The IMPD officer that was hit suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital complaining of pain to his neck and back.
