Zelnorm® was prescribed to treat constipation associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and chronic constipation in patients less than 65 years of age. In March 2007, Novartis Pharmaceuticals agreed to the FDA’s request to remove this dangerous drug from the market due to the increased risk of heart attack and stroke associated with its use. July 2007 saw the drug reintroduced for a small group of patients suffering from IBS. However, in April 2008 Novartis reassessed the new program and pulled Zelnorm® permanently off the market.
The injuries from Zelnorm® resulted in hospitalization and even death for many patients. I believe the manufacturer should be held accountable for the harm it has caused. I am not afraid of taking on the pharmaceutical and insurance companies. These businesses have to learn that when they hurt someone, there is going to be a fight. My goal is to ensure that my clients get the compensation that they deserve to pay for their medical bills, their lost time from work, and their pain and suffering. I want to send the message to these companies that we’re not going to sit back and allow them to peddle defective or dangerous drugs.
